Lysebotn is a very small
village at the innermost part of the
Lysefjord located in the Ryfylke area in the commune of Forsand and
in the county of Rogaland. A few decades ago, a lively and
active community - the power plants
providing jobs to the locals. The village had both school and
shops.
After the operation of the power plants for a major part were
automated and remote controlled, the Lysebotn community
experienced a serious recession in losses of jobs and
infrastructure. More than one third of the inhabitants had to move
BUT - when enthusiasts discovered the unique
possibilities for base jumping from the Kjerag massif, the word
about this village with its spectacular surroundings started to
spread. Tourists from all over the world discovered that Lysebotn
has much more to offer than just the adrenalin kick the base jumpers
and mountaineers experience thrusting themselves out from a thousand
meters or climbing the literally vertical faces of the mountains.
For those enjoying really unique wonders of nature, the attractions
are many - click on the links to the left. Also man-made wonders can
be experienced - the serpentine road dropping more than 800 meters
in just a few kilometres, ends in a 360 degrees spiral inside the
mountain itself before emerging into daylight at the bottom of the
valley.
These days, the tourist industry has brought new optimism and
confidence in the future to the village. In co-operation with the
Lyse Power Company - which has contributed with its buildings and
other facilities - this small place on earth now offers an
around-the-year service to visitors with motel, café, pub, cabin
rental and a camping site. The photo to the right shows the
idyllic camping site.
On the page "About" you will learn more about
